POTPOURRI
STYLISH AND SLEEK, ONE OF NEW
ORLEANS’ FEW SHIPPING
CONTAINER HOMES ASKS $290,000
Built from steel shipping containers used to move freight down the Mississippi River,
this Uptown home is the 21st-century equivalent of a bargeboard cottage. It was
constructed in 2014 from two 4-ton shipping containers salvaged from a Chalmette
shipping terminal.
Fourteen-foot ceilings and translucent rippled polycarbonate walls give the living
area an airy, spacious feel. Honed granite countertops and a five-burner Fisher
Paykel stove add a luxe edge to the kitchen.
The home has one bedroom and one bathroom, both bright and minimal. Carrera
marble, a vessel sink, and hexagonal floor tiles add flair to the bathroom.
Outside, a petite porch overlooks the heated cocktail pool, which is framed by
tropical vegetation and permeable gravel.
