DP World and Saudi Arabia's Mawani launch new shipping line
DP World, one of the world biggest port operators, has partnered with the Saudi
Ports Authority (Mawani) to launch a new shipping line to help the kingdom increase
its connectivity.The new direct shipping line will connect the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port in
Dubai with Egypt’s Sokhna Port through Jeddah Islamic Port, enabling Saudi Arabia
to improve shipping services to the Red Sea coast area, the Dubai Media Office
said in a statement on Wednesday.This is the fourth shipping line venture
undertaken by Mawani, which is part of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport, this
year. It has a strategy to improve the kingdom’s sea, land and air connectivity with
neighbouring countries.
HMM Algeciras: World's biggest container ship completes maiden voyage
The world's largest container ship has completed its maiden voyage, arriving in
Essex.HMM Algeciras docked in Thurrock after travelling from China via South
Korea, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.Preparations to welcome the ship,
which is 1,312ft (400m) long and 200ft (61m) wide, started more than six months
ago.Peter Livey, managing director for Britain at HMM - the company that owns the
vessel - said its arrival in the UK was a "major milestone"."Ships of this size give us
the capacity and flexibility to get our customers' goods to the right place at the right
time," he said.
World’s Largest Vessel ‘Pioneering Spirit’ Removes Third Platform From
Brent Field
Allseas’ heavy lift vessel Pioneering Spirit has completed its first decommissioning
job of this summer, the single-lift removal of Shell U.K. Limited’s Brent Alpha
platform from the North Sea. Several years of planning and 15 months of offshore
preparation, including strengthening and cutting the steel jacket’s six legs,
culminated in the 9-second “fast lift” of the 17,000-t topsides in the evening of 21
June 2020. Pioneering Spirit will now deliver the 44-year old structure to Able UK
Limited’s Teesside decommissioning yard in North East England for dismantling and
recycling.
Pioneering Spirit (formerly Pieter Schelte) is the world's largest vessel by gross
tonnage. She was designed for the single-lift installation and removal of large oil and
gas platforms and the installation of record-weight pipelines. Designed by Swiss-
based Allseas Group, the 382-metre (1,253 ft) long, 124-metre (407 ft) wide vessel
with GRT 403342, was built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine
Engineering (2011–14) at a cost of €2.6 billion and commenced offshore operations
