TÊTE-A-TÊTE
Almost a decade with Al-Rashed now; how has your journey been?
When I joined Al Rashed as a fresher, I was naïve and new to the corporate world.
In my journey, I have learned shipping from scratch. From the basics of exporting
any shipment to deal with diverse professionals from different backgrounds. Today I
am a confident leader because of the opportunities bestowed upon me by Mr. Ravi
Varrier and Mr. Rajiv Menon. Thus, the conducive work environment, my seniors'
trust, opportunities to grow and thrive are a few of the many reasons for my long
journey with Al Rashed. I complete 10 years in 2022 and hope for many more years
of association.
What kind of challenges do you face on a day to day basis? DANAH ALHAJJI
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Much of my work involves interacting with lots of people from all walks of life,
culture, and nationalities. It is not always easy to make them understand why we are doing what we are doing.
But at the end of the day, all the challenges are good as it makes you grow.
What is the most fun part of your job?
Dealing with unique clients and customers, sometimes their uniqueness makes you laugh even in the middle of
a critical situation.
If you have to summarize your journey in Al-Rashed, how it would be?
First things first, I had a great journey so far and loved every moment of it. Every phase had so much to learn
and deliver. My journey began with Hanjin, where I was involved in the export department. Now I‘m proud to
know A to Z on how to handle any shipment, be it import or export. My sincerity, hard work, and dedication to
my work helped me learn faster and become knowledgeable in the field.
What are the major changes you have seen in yourself after working for Al Rashed?
Over the years, I have transformed from an innocent individual to a mature professional and a confident leader.
My personality has changed completely in the process now; I can call myself a well-versed shipping employee
who has learned a lot, observed everything that came my way and gave the best I could. Now I can confidently
deal with ministry personnel, customs, different companies, and of course, my colleagues.
What are some of the things you believe that can be improved in our company?
We are living now in a digital era, where technology is at its peak. Improving the digital aspect, going for digital
(online) payment, increasing our social media presence and inculcating E-commerce operations can only boost
our performance and eventually add to our revenue. Another thing could be recruiting or training existing
employees to be bilingual (knowing both Arabic & English)
What are your pastimes/hobbies?
I love reading. Especially physics-related books. I also have set up a telescope on my roof and love spending
time among the stars.
