TÊTE-A-TÊTE

You have been affiliated with Al Rashed for almost three decades; what do
you think is the core reason for such a long commitment?
I take this opportunity first to thank Al Rashed management & especially our CEO
Mr Ravi Varrier for giving a good fortune to work with him and Al Rashed
International Shipping Co. In the past years. I was guided by many experienced
managers who gave me a platform to learn , understand , and strive all through
all hurdles that came across during the day to day activities. I was able to gain a
lot of knowledge by working with Al Rashed on various type of Port operation
activities from handling container ships /bulk and breakbulk vessels/ tanker /
passenger ships /cruise vessels / Various military – Navy ships and offshore
                                                                                            MR. ABDUL RASHEED
operations, to name a few. OPERATIONS MANAGER
Can you take us through your life's journey?
I started my career in Kuwait Ports as a tally clerk during the year 1976. In those days, all cargo used to arrive in
Kuwait Ports in Bulk. Vessel operation for each vessel used to be much more time consuming, unlike today.
Containerization has made a drastic change in developments of vessel operation and time management.
I joined Al-Rashed in 1991 as a Port Supervisor. During my career as Port supervisor, under the aegis of Mr Ravi (our
CEO) and (late) Mr Karan (then operation manager), my two pillars of Al-Rashed who always inspired me to learn and
enhance my knowledge widely in shipping and port operations. During this journey, I sadly remember Mr Karan's
demise, who holds an irreplaceable position in my life.

What challenges do you usually face in the port?
Every day is a challenge in Port operations. Most of the time is spent in dealing with authorities to get the matters in
hand sorted out. Any sudden changes in regulations usually create havoc in the otherwise smooth operations. The to
COVID 19 pandemic has made the day to day activities difficult, but we, at, Al-Rashed are very resilient, and we do get
             our jobs done on time.

What are the things that keep you inspired to go the extra mile in everyday business?
My mantra is simple- keep an energetic mind and body, work hard and smart, motivate yourself, and others to achieve
             every goal put forth.

What is something that you still aspire to do in life?
Work till I can and then have a quiet, retired life back home in India.

             What is your pastime activity?
Life of a port operations personnel is always on alert and on-call 24x7. In my free time, I love spending time with my
family and playing with my grandchildren.

Fondly called Rasheed Bhai, what advice do you have for our readers?
To reach your ambition, you need to stay focused on every aspect of your life.
